Naumes breaks into Southern Oregon custom crush wine industry
“Naumes, a Rogue Valley company known for growing pears for decades, has decided to break into the wine business. Wine enthusiasts say it’s indicative of the successful and expanding wine industry in Southern Oregon.
“Three years ago we started planting vineyards,” said Laura Naumes, the Vice President of the company.
Now Naumes says the company plans to open up their own custom crush winery, Naumes Crush and Fermentation, by late summer.”
Naumes plans custom-crush winery in former packing house
“Southern Oregon’s wine industry has pumped new life into an array of agriculture and urban settings in recent years. The latest is in north Medford, where one of the Rogue Valley’s biggest agriculture names is plunging into viticulture.
The Naumes Family, best known for being one of the largest pear growers in the county, plans to open a custom crush winery in the former Rogue River Orchards packing house between Central Avenue and the railroad.
Naumes Crush & Fermentation is expected to be up and running in time for the 2015 harvest, processing up to 200 tons in its first season.”
